Some years ago, the use of web pages which were split up into ‘frames’ were fashionable. These allowed publishers to draw in extra material like adverts alongside their own content. When other publishers began to link to the content alone, rather than th content+ads, the original purveyors were rather miffed, as their own business models were being subverted.
We plan to harvest content and support its re-presentation in a variety of ways. Might we fall foul of original publishers, if these are supported by advertising? Perhaps we should check.
Meanwhile, a related thought is triggered. Might we seek to encourage those who we hope will re-present the material we make available, to draw in advertisement or sponsorship. Should our own business model be a mixed economy one? It seems unwise to rely upon public sector funding in isolation, let alone upon project money for anything beyond start-up.
